The project was to build on their understanding of forces, acceleration (in this case the acceleration due to gravity) and mass. This was also a prelude to our upcoming unit on momentum and collisions.
Students were broke into teams of two and had a week to design and create a container to house an egg, that when dropped, would protect the egg from breaking. The students could create any container they wanted but were required to provide their own materials (The school supplied tape and hot glue). The only real restrictions were no parachutes or glass.
The winner was the team that protected the egg and had the least amount of mass.
